Abbeyfield House Hornby
Abbeyfield House Hornby was a shared house project for independent retired people who wish to share meals and common living areas with others. It was completed as part of the new $12 million New Zealand Housing Foundation affordable housing project at Hornby that is close to public transport, shops, library and parks. Christchurch Council made reserve land available for affordable housing after the 2010 - 2011 earthquakes and the developer, New Zealand Housing Foundation, allocated Abbeyfield a 1900sqm site in a cul-de-sac site for its shared housing project.
The house’s bespoke design to a five-star Lifemark rating comprised communal spaces, a self-contained housekeepers accommodation area, and 12 partly self-contained studio bedrooms each with a small, private patio. We installed comprehensive fire safety and security systems, and construction included on-site parking for residents and garaging for mobility scooters.
